Checking a structural engineer
- Verify the Pr Eng number on the ECSA register — the certificate must be current, not lapsed.
- Confirm professional indemnity cover; ask for the amount, not just a yes.
- For a new build, agree upfront who signs the Form 4 / structural completion certificate.
- Get the appointment and fee basis in writing before drawings are issued.
